Thinking about buying your child a new device this Christmas?

It’s that time of year when your child might receive a new phone, tablet, laptop or games console. This makes it a great opportunity to think about what you can do to help keep them safe online.

Set the device up together

Christmas is perfect for spending time with your child. When the gifts are unwrapped, you can work out how to use those shiny new devices together. You can also start having conversations about online safety. This can help build trust and confidence, enabling your child to know what to do if they ever feel troubled or unsafe.

There are also settings to help with:

  • preventing children from viewing upsetting or inappropriate content
  • managing which apps can be downloaded and limiting purchases within them
  • turning off location sharing
